How to Install WP Plugins | Install WordPress Plugins

Users love WordPress not only because it’s a great program for web publishing, but also because it’s free and support is free. WordPress is a complete content management system which is widely used over the world.

Everyone loves all the free plugins that enhance WordPress blogs and websites. When you start using this system as your blogging platform you will need some technical information about using wordpress and its features.

Plugins are tools which provide additional functionality to your application. This blog post will show you how to install WordPress plugins into your self-hosted WordPress site. WordPress Plugins come in two styles:
1, Automatically installing plugins
2, Menualy installing plugins.

This is by far the easiest method but it does require that your server is setup in such a way as to allow modifications to the plugin directory. This is beyond the scope of this guide, but it involves giving group/other write permissions to the wp-content/plugins directory.

Automatically Installing Plugins from Your Dashboard:

One of the best and easiest ways to install plugins from your wordpress dashboard. You can search the wordpress plugins repository from the dashboard and install them easily.

First of all login to your wordpress blog with the admin user. First go to your WordPress Admin Panel and click on Plugins » Add New that you can find on the left navigation panel and you can search for the plugin by clicking on the ‘search’ link. On the search box you can enter the name of the plugin and it will show you the available plugins.

Then from the available plugin list select your plugin and click on the “Install now” button. That’s all now your plugin will be installed automatically. After successful installation you can activate the plugin directly. that’s it

Manually installing plugins:

This method is very useful when you cannot install plugin using WP dashboard. Menually installing plugins are Plugins you upload by ftp client. WordPress plugins are usually distributed as zip files. Once downloaded the file needs to be unzipped.

To install a plugin you generally just need to put the plugin file into your ‘wp-content/plugins’ directory. Once a plugin is installed, you may activate it and then interact with only through your Administration Panels.

You can manage your plugins too:
Activate & deactivate plugins
Delete plugins
Update plugins

Important Note:

  • You should always install plugins from trusted sources.
  • Make sure you check the plugin’s compatibility information before installing.
  • A incompatible plugin might break down your blog. So be careful and advisable to take blog backup from time to time.
